Improvised Rope Rescue

This six-hour course will cover the essential skills of improvised rope rescue. Participants will learn how to escape the belay, ascend a rope, and raise an injured climber with equipment you would typically carry on a multi-pitch climb.

Who it's for:

Climbers with multipitch climbing experience with a knowledge of basic knots, and looking to gain more skills! If participants have a good grasp of basic skills, the course can be tailored accordingly.

What to bring:

  • helmet
  • harness
  • belay device (ATC and an autolock device (eg. Grigri) if you have one
  • 3 locking carabiners
  • 5 non-locking carabiners or quickdraws
  • an assortment of slings (30cm, 60cm 120cm)
  • one 5m x 7mm cordelette (two if you have them)
  • one 1.5m x 7mm personal prussik cord (or hollow block)
  • any other gear you would carry on your day of climbing (pulley, micro-traxion, etc)
  • snacks
  • friends!

The course is run by an ACMG Rock Guide, with a maximum of 6 participants. It is framed around the limitations of our climbing gear, and basic force principles which will give participants the skills and knowledge for more advanced techniques and solutions.
