Has anyone seen our wall, or, adventures in logistics land

Has anyone seen our wall?

Pretty hard to sugar coat this one – our wall has been stolen. A truck finally showed up yesterday but only a fraction of our steel was in there, and no wood. We’re still piecing together what happened but information is slim. Here’s what we know:

Someone really liked our design!
Climbing is getting popular!

These are the facts so far πŸ™‚
Seriously, we don’t have much information at this point, but at least we can move forward. It’s been a challenging couple of weeks just wondering what the heck was going on with our shipment. Now we know, and there’s some positives to come out of this…
But first the bad: this sucks, no doubt about it. Hard to say how long of a setback this is but a couple/few weeks at minimum. Starting this construction project we knew there were going to be delays but can’t say we saw this one coming. Was it Bugs Bunny who spoke of the unknown unknowns? Someone like that anyways…
The positives: Β onsite has been incredibly supportive throughout this whole process. They’re bumping the reproduction of our wall to high priority in their queue πŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½
We do have some steel, and not only is it what we need to get started, it’s what takes the longest time to manufacture. So we’re starting to assemble today as OnSite does what they’re able to do.
We’ve had an incredible outpouring of support from our early-bird members and the community at large. It’s been amazing to feel the love and psyche for this project. We’re so grateful for this and it is so inspiring; of course we will keep marching forward but this support helps to validate our mission and will sustain us through the weeks ahead πŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½πŸ¦ΎπŸ¦ΎπŸ‘ŠπŸΌπŸ‘ŠπŸΌβ€οΈβ€οΈ

It is not a surprise that choosing a space to lease, then a partner to build your climbing wall, then designing the climbing surfaces, then choosing holds is a lot of hard work, much of it guesswork.

Eventually the climbing wall supplier, onsite in our case, has fabricated the steel, cut the plywood, and loaded the works into a truck.

Canada is a big place and the winter drive from Montreal to Toronto involves a good deal of uncertainty. The days tick by. A week goes by. No communication from the truck. Another few days tick by.

A couple of days ago the truck broker calls to say they have started a security investigation. For reasons that will become obvious below, we can’t share many details.

Yesterday, Dec 1, the truck arrives. Late is better than never! We open the doors, and.. Whoa, most of the stuff is missing. The steel columns are a jumble. Only one palette has arrived.Β

We are the victims of a load theft ring. It’s going to take a while toΒ
